Neuroepigenomics Lab

Research vision

The Nott group studies how the epigenome and chromatin architecture shape cell type gene expression programmes in the healthy brain and during ageing and disease. Using human genetics alongside epigenomic profiling of patient-derived brain tissue and stem cell-derived models, we ask why particular brain cell types — from microglia to the vascular cells of the brain — are especially susceptible to ageing-related brain conditions such as Alzheimer's disease and small vessel disease, and how this susceptibility changes across the human life course.

Our lab is part of the Department of Brain Sciences at Imperial College London and the UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI). The UK DRI is the UK's national institute for dementia and neurodegeneration research, uniting nearly 1,000 researchers across the country to discover what drives these conditions and turn that understanding into new treatments. Being embedded in this network, alongside Imperial's wider neuroscience community, connects us closely to world-class labs and clinical research across London and beyond.
